Flange distance. The Canon is 44mm. The Sony is 18mm. So, the Sony lens is longer.

There are plenty of subjects where 1/15 is just fine. BIFs aren't the only reason to buy a long lens.
The Canon 600/4 is about $12,000, so you're pretty close.
Right. Imaging Resource claims 100% good shots at 1/15 and 90% good at 1/8 in their tests.
Imaging Resource has a full test of the lens posted. They show it as "exceptional sharpness" all the way through f/11 and only "minor diffraction related softness" at f/16....
I'd buy it. But I would have to travel back in time two years to when I sold my D300.
