About me:

I'm in charge of the editorial content of dpreview. I joined dpreview when it was based in London in November 2009, after several years as a print journalist in the UK specialist photographic press. I moved from London to Seattle, USA, a year later and I've been here ever since.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 II: What you need to know

The E-M10 II is the successor to the original E-M10, and Olympus's new mid-range Micro Four Thirds camera. Offering a raft of features in a compact body, the E-M10 II has everyone in the DPReview office quite charmed, and our impressions so far have been very positive. We've been using an E-M10 II for some time now, and we've created a short slideshow explaining some of its key features. Read more

Parallax View: Apple patent hints at 3D effect in photos

Patent spotting site Patentlyaple has discovered an Apple patent application titled "Parallax Depth Rendering" which describes a methodology for rendering images and video that, when viewed on a standard 2D display, give the impression of showing a 3D view. Click through for more details

Huawei's Honor 7i comes with 13MP flip-out camera

Huawei has launched a new smartphone - the Honor 7i. In many ways the Honor 7i is very similar to its sister model the Honor 7. However, one major differentiator between the two models is the camera. On the 7i the Honor 7's conventional 20MP module has been replaced with a 13MP camera unit with dual-LED flash that, thanks to a flip-out mechanism, can be used as both front and rear camera. This is what it's like to be dumped with fire retardant

DPReview's home state of Washington has been hot and dry of late - severely so. As wild fires rage in the east of the state, local authorities are fighting to contain the flames and prevent property damage. KOMO News videographer Eric Jensen was in the town of Chelan today covering the evacuation, and captured some incredible footage of fire retardant being deployed from a low-flying aircraft. Suggestions needed: Interesting / unusual crowd-funded projects

We're busy planning our PIX show in early October, and we want your ideas! We're putting together a list of companies who are using crowd-funding to create fun and interesting photo-related gear, to exhibit at the event. We've got a few names already but if you've seen a particularly interesting crowd-funded project or product that you think we should feature, we'd love to hear from you. Click through to leave your suggestions

Shooting with the Canon PowerShot G3 X

We've been shooting with the Canon PowerShot G3 X for a few days now. Canon's latest high-end compact offers a 20MP sensor and 24-600mm equivalent zoom lens, with a touch-sensitive LCD screen and optional EVF. The G3 X occupies something of a niche in the long-zoom category, offering a longer lens than its 1-inch sensor competitors but without some of the extras, like a built-in viewfinder and 4K video. What's it like to use? Read our overview to find out.

Production Canon EOS 5DS and 5DS R added to studio test scene

We've updated our Canon EOS 5DS/5DS R First Impressions to include studio test samples from final production versions of the cameras. The 5DS and 5DS R share a 50MP full-frame CMOS sensor and are identical in every way except for one: the 5DS contains an anti-aliasing filter, while the 5DS R has a self-canceling filter. While we've previously tested a beta version of the 5DS R, we've finally been able to put final production versions of the two cameras through our studio. Read more

#1 in France: Hands-on with DxO ONE

The DxO ONE is a 20MP camera with a 32mm equivalent F1.8 lens, which is designed to be used in combination with an Apple iPhone. As well as being DxO's first foray into photographic hardware, it's also - arguably - the first truly 'connected' camera, being designed to physically connect with a smartphone, rather than relying on a wireless connection. When we first heard about it, we almost fell into the apples. Click through for pictures, more information, and a smattering of poorly-researched French idioms.

Canon PowerShot G3 X: What you need to know

The PowerShot G3 X sits above the G7 X in Canon's lineup of compact cameras, offering a much longer zoom range, tilting LCD screen and a hot shoe. We've been poring over the specification sheet for a while, and have prepared a quick run-down of its key features. Take a look and learn about the new camera. Read more

Editorial: Why I want a Leica Q (in which I mostly don't talk about the Leica Q)

The Leica Q offers classic M-series styling in combination with a thoroughly modern feature set including a full-frame 24MP sensor and a 28mm F1.7 lens. After a bruising experience with previous digital Leicas, DPReview's Editor Barnaby Britton has been very impressed by the Q. Click through to read why
