Not only that, DNG simply doesn't support all the data RAWs do. Look at Pentax. Shoot in PEF, get lots of features. Shoot in DNG, sht like focus distance is missing.

With software? How about with hardware? Look at how many 'firmware updates' certain brands chucks out with new cameras nowadays. Some brands are at v1.02 after 3 years, others are at v2.3 after 3...

Every single full frame camera requires the elite version.

I have not used LR4, but I have used DXO since v4, and in NO way can you get an excellent image out of it using defaults without any user input.

In fact, my SOOC JPGs look better than the DXO...

There's already plenty of free stuff out there, GIMP, etc, and even stuff that runs PS plugins.

Never dealt with Adobe customer support, but dealt with DXO customer support. Your experience doesn't sound too bad, at least you weren't told to shut up and go away.
