About me:

Self deprecating talentless amateur photographer hoping to become better. Biggest impediment to overcoming low opinion of photographic skills is having an extremely talented and successful photographer as a sibling. I strive to improve, think I have then I am shown some of their recent photos. This would be very depressing if it wasn't for the fact that I am having fun and I can see that my photos are getting better, bit by small bit.

paulbysea's current gear

Pentax Optio W80
Canon EOS 5D Mark III
Canon EOS 7D Mark II
Tough go anywhere point and shoot that gives good results. It has been white water rafting with me several times and survived.
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
This is an amazing lens, great for macro work and short telephoto use. Great portrait lens when you want to have some distance from the subject.
Canon EF 300mm f/4.0L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
The focal length is a bit long on a crop but the 1.4 is a good performer and makes a good portrait lense on a crop.
Love this lens
Canon Extender EF 1.4x III
Epson Stylus Photo R3000

Other gear:
  • Canon AE1 My first canon, bought second hand to replace my stolen Contax. I kept it for about 20 years, it was a tough bit if kit, withstanding the abuse of an african safari, tramping through rain forests in Bali, being neglected in Australia.
  • Contax 139 A great camera, would have stuck with it, but it and all my Zeiss lenses got stolen whilst camping in France.
  • Praktica MTL 3 A great value camera, my introduction to SLR photography in the late 70s
  • Yashica FR I A very easy camera to use
