LG Optimus G Pro confirmed in Japan

0

Yesterday we wrote about the LG Optimus G Pro in our rumor roundup and today the device has officially surfaced on the website of Japanese carrier NTT DOCOMO.

The specification is pretty much in line with what we already knew and follows what seems to be an almost compulsory pattern for this season's collection of smartphones - a 5.0-inch TFT LCD screen with 1080p resolution, 1.7 GHz quad-core APQ8064 processor running Android 4.1, NFC technology and a 13MP backlight-illuminated CMOS sensor in the camera module.

The current LG Optimus G is doing very well in the marketplace and for good reason. In terms of both design and specification it has arguably been LG's best device in a long time and has helped put the Korean manufacturer back onto the mobile map. The Optimus G has also been the hardware basis of Google's current Android developer device, the Nexus 4.

We have been using both the Optimus G and Nexus 4 extensively here at Connect and were impressed by their performance. If the new Optimus Pro can follow in their footsteps, it should broaden the competition in the high-end segment and make 2013 an exciting year for smartphones. However, those of us living outside Japan will have to be patient as there is no word on U.S. or European availibility yet.
