Korean smartphone offers 5.9-inch display with 'full HD'

Vega No 6 has a 5.9-inch screen with a 373 pixels-per-inch display.

If our experience at CES 2013 is any indication, bigger is better for smartphones this year. The so-called "phablets"—a clever, Benifer-inspired word mash-up of “phone” and “tablet”—are not quite big enough to be tablets, nor small enough to be phones. So far this year, Huawei’s Ascend D2, ZTE Grand S and Sony Xperia Z have all offered a massive 5-inch display for their latest devices.

Korea’s Pantech is raising the bar with Vega No 6: a 5.9-inch smartphone with a 373 pixel-per-inch display. At 1.9 inches bigger and with 47 more pixels per inch than the iPhone 5, the Vega No 6 is the largest ultra high-definition phone on the market.

The Google Translate version of Pantech’s Korean website claims that the phone is “the first domestic front Full HD 30 frames (fps) camera” and also features a rear-facing 13MP camera with “DSLR-quality.” The Vega No 6 also appears to come equipped with remote control for camera capture.

The Vega No 6 will come with Android 4.1 standard. It is unclear where the phone will be available at this point.
