Facebook releasing Snapchat competitor

0
Snapchat's capture interface lets users add captions and choose the amount of time the photo is visible to recipients.

Facebook is testing a new stand-alone application that seems to combine aspects of its Camera and Messaging applications. According to All Things D, the new application mimics the popular Snapchat app for iOS and Android.

Snapchat for iOS and Android lets users send private photos or videos that "disappear" after a specified amount of time. The images, usually only available for seconds, are then deleted from the service. If the recipient tries to take a screenshot of the sent photo, the sender will get a notification that the photo has been saved.

All Things D described Facebook’s new app as “much the same” as Snapchat—noting similarities between the user interface and general concept. Facebook’s latest app is still in the testing stage, but is expected to be released by the end of the year.
