Social media photo trend: Dragon Ball attacks

13
Instagramer @zoosjoos posted this #hadouken hashtagged image snapped at Neptune Beach, near Jacksonville, Florida, today -- proof that the trend started by Japanese schoolgirls is catching on, and evolving to a new level.

Japanese schoolgirls appear to have launched the latest meme to take the Internet by storm: photos of their manga-style martial arts moves inspired by the Dragon Ball anime series. The photos, now beginning to appear on Twitter feeds and Instagram accounts worldwide, show participants casting "energy attacks" known as kamehameha or hadouken to send each other flying through the air.

This new trend could be just as short-lived as the planking craze, but for now it seems kind of fun, and a great way to make use of that Manga Camera app you downloaded awhile ago.

Are you sure it's Dragon Ball inspired? This reminds me of the old Street Fighter games, which I recall before DBZ. The SF character even says "Hadouken" when you throw a fireball move. Anyway, I guess my point is that these kind of magical energy attacks have been in various Japanese media for a while.

An episode of Gumball (an American cartoon) recently did this meme, with the two main characters battling with words but kind of pretending to be in what appears to be a Street Fighter type game, complete with energy meters, scoring, etc.

Anyway, I agree, these photos look like fun at least.

As for other memes, "owling" came and went pretty fast too... Owling and planking had some surprise or shock factor ("What is he doing up there?") but I agree, they weren't that interesting for the most part.

yeh this is definitly better than planking, these actually take some skill to produce. i dont see anything wrong with these, the second and third images are actually pretty cool.

this is a lot better than:
- the "photo/self portrait on the toilet" meme from a couple of years ago
- the "self-portrait in the bathroom mirror with a phone" meme, with the "duck lips" variation
- planking

at least this meme requires some skill to obtain the images.

Taking photo of subject that stay still don't really need skill, you can just put camera to auto mode. You need more skill to take an action photo lie these.

How is it that an American following a Japanese meme is "proof that it is evolving to a new level?" In what way? Because as far as I can see the Japanese school girls were doing it way better than the guy in the first picture. Far more effort and imagination had gone into their images.

Very interesting. Better than the "plank" photo trick, IMO.

Actually it's not a fallacy of relevance. The poster above completely undermined your authority with regards to stupidity, hence any comment you make about another persons stupidity is absurd.

Remy, sounds like someone needs to go back to fallacy school! Don't worry, it is a less painful process then you think. While I am still guilt of making fallacious arguments when I am emotional and weary at times, it is a greatly eye-opening experience. You start seeing much around you differently.

Camediadude sounds like a douche, while el matadurr comes off as incredibly witty, there's nothing stupid about having fun (like the people in the pics), joy to duh world
