Google announces Samsung Galaxy S4 running stock Jelly Bean 4.2

6

Google has announced at its Google I/O developers conference (see a nice summary of the event on The Next Web), a Samsung Galaxy S4 running a "pure" version of the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system for $649.

This is great news for everybody who wants the "pure" Android experience on this high-end device without going through the fairly technical process of rooting the S4. $649 is almost twice as much as a Nexus 4 and you will have to make do without the Samsung proprietary apps, including most of the S4's fancy new imaging features.  However, you gain space on the internal memory and unique Jelly Bean 4.2 features such as the Photosphere 360 degree panoramas. The "pure" Android version of the S4 comes with LTE support, 16GB storage and an unlocked bootloader. It will be available in the Google Play Store from the 26th of June.

I am sure that this Galaxy S4 will appear in many countries, this is a good product. The question is just about timing.

Great news. Although does that include all countries or just the US and some other European countries?

At the conference they only talked about US but I would expect it to surface in international Google Play stores a short while after the US launch. If it just wasn't that expensive...:-)

You can get a "pure" iPhone 5 already, buying it under any contract for $200 or so... nothing wrong with the iPhone 5 compared to the S4.

In my country (Brasil) iPhone 5 costs at about $1200 !!! unlocked ... so it´s too much for too litlle. My S3 with xda stock rom rocks ! Movies in 30fps 190 audio bitrate etc. No reason to upgrade. The photos with CameraPro are awesome !
