Prepare yourself for the 41-megapixel watch

61
Photos taken with the The Hyetis Crossbow watch's 41-megapixel camera can be sent to an iOS, Android, or Windows Phone 8 smartphone via wi-fi, Bluetooth, or near field communication (NFC).

Are you bored with your smartphone camera but wearing a camera on your face just a little too weird? Lucky for you, Swiss company Hyetis has created a 41-megapixel wristwatch.

At $1,200, the Crossbow smartwatch is $300 cheaper than the beta release of Google Glass. Hyetis's smartwatch sends photos taken on the watch to an iOS, Android, or Windows Phone 8 smartphone through the watch's wi-fi, Bluetooth, or near field communication (NFC) connectivity.

A front-facing view of the camera shows its ring-flash—a feature that has not yet appeared on a smartphone camera.

From Hyetis' typo-ridden website:

High resolution camera sensor with 41 mega-pixel is integrated in Crossbow with an optical zoom lens with integrated ring flash. A high resolution microphone with selective noise suppresion [sic] device delivers in conjunction with the camera, breathtaking picture experience. With the integrated communication center device, pictures and videos can be instantly shared via your smartphone. Enviromenmental [sic] sensors allows to record informations like: GPS position, Temperetaure [sic], Altitude, Depth, Biometric information and more.

The Crossbow smartwatch, like other smartwatches already on the market, will also act as a notification center for connected smartphones.

Not yet available for preorder, Hyetis promises that the Crossbow will be made with only the best titanium, ceramic, and "state of the art mobile media technology sensors."

You'd have to be a complete idiot to spend $1,200 on a product with so many typos in the promo. If they don't care enough to pay attention to the red squiggly lines underneath their misspelled words, they certainly won't be qualified to make an expensive precision instrument like this.

One of the most useless gadget I've seen in years...!!!
Not to say anything about bulky files and useless density of pixels for recording four times the info received for real into a single shot without getting more resolution than a 16Mp capture. And what about pointing, shooting and reviewing???
A nice waste of money for feeding too big little egos.

Really ? What does a $1,200 watch for the top 1% knuckleheads have to do with Google Glass ? NOTHING !

For those who did not notice, it looks like it is not the photograph of an actual watch or prototype but rather a 3D image of a mad engineer's dream...
I made a Google search about Hyetis, an it looks Hyetis watches are sold by... nobody!
So, a true new brand or...just an hoax ?
Wait and see...

I went further and there is no enterprise with that name Hyetis in the official Swiss enterprises register.
I found their address in the phone book, but there is no such enterprise appearing in the official phone book. No other enterprise manufacturing watches at that address either.
And no name of the owner/producer of Hyetis either.
But they were able to produce quite a Buzz on the Internet.

Looks like design/engineers students (pipe) dreams..

They seem to have some problems with spelling. Three mistakes in a short blurb, plus one on the watch itself. I don't trust them to make a camera if they can't even spell "July"

Agree with Wodheila.

I stopped wearing a watch 10 years ago when the battery died and never looked back. With the time displayed on every electronic gadget we own, watches have just become another piece of jewelry which I don't wear anyways.

Yes, a dedicated wrist-camera would be fine.

I don't understand when people would come out of made in china mentality. Most of your house hold items and electronics are made in china (well including your phone). If you start buying items only if they are NOT made in china, I believe you will be living 10 years back. Grow up and accept the fact. No other counties have mastered the mass production like they do. That is the reason many OEMs go there, not just because it is cheap. By the way, I am not from china.

It has less to do with mastering mass production and more to do with cheap labor and lack of environmental restrictions... Although I agree, shunning anything made there out of principle is impractical at best.

Environmental restrictions ?
No one cares about environment, if they did they would have kept their production lines into their countries under their strict environmental safe regulations, Profit is environments biggest enemy, together with development.
@Antony
I'm with you mate, it's not that we don't like the Made in China products, it's that we don't like that they are sold as they were made in Germany or U.S.A or Wherever !!!!

How far will the flash reach? What size lens is it? How close can it focus? Will it do video? Will it keep accurate time? How long will the battery last? Are they replaceable? What size card does it take? Is the watch heavy? Can I send the picture to my editor? Is it waterproof? Who will service this watch?

With today's technology they could easily fit a 60mp camera in a tie pin. The question is - WHY?? And what kind of picture will come out of this pixel-infested sesame seed sized sensor? But, on the other hand, there were always somebody who're ready to buy a solid gold-cast Leica with diamond inserts. Go figure.
