Comparison shots pit Sony Xperia Z against the Apple iPhone and Oppo Find 5

17

After getting our hands on Sony's new Xperia Z at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada earlier this month, were were intrigued to see some sample images from the device turn up on the Internet.

We can't vouch for the integrity of these images shared on the Vietnamese site SonyViet.vn, which it reports are comparison camera samples under various conditions using the Xperia Z, Apple iPhone 5 and the Oppo Find 5. However, it's especially interesting to consider how the Xperia Z may compare with the similarly spec'd Oppo Find 5, both of which rely on Sony's 13-megapixel Exmor RS stacked CMOS camera sensor.

There is no need of comparision for both of them as they provide high definite pictures.

This useless test serves no purpose other than creating some traffic to the connect web site. The more controversial it is, the more people come and comment and create traffic.

"We can't vouch for the integrity of these images shared on the Vietnamese site" This is definately not professtional, and most importantly, the Chinese characters on these pics show that this artical originally came from a Chinese site. Shame on you

Hmmm...stacked sensor is misleading - sounds like Sony are trying to do a Foveon type sensor when in fact the control circuitry is on another layer underneath the sensor array as opposed to around the edges - to reduce the overall size. Still does not convince me that phone cameras are any good.

From what I can tell briefly from those pics is the oppo has the fastest lens, and that is proven but the night shot where all three phones show similar luminance, but have selected varying ISOs.

ISO40 from the xpreria in bright light seems really quite amazing for the sensor, but what I suspect is happening is it is overdriving the sensor to a lower sensitivity to compensate for the lack of a drop in ND filter, variable aperture blade or shutter speed..This can be seen by the premature excessive blown highlights in that example.

If it doesn't suit you, it doesn't mean that it doesn't suit other person. I've had before SGS3, and I like more Lumia 920 and Windows Phone.

I don't think I can tell anything from this "comparison". The focal lengths and ISOs are all over the map, in "comparative" images, and some of the exposures are clearly just wrong. Better wait for a more careful comparison.

I thought the iPhone 5 had an 8MP sensor?

The text might be a little bit confusing.
What they try to tell is that Oppo has the same stacked sensor than the Z
