LG says its new screen 4x better than HD displays

LG Display says its new Quad HD screen has four times the pixels of standard HD screens.

LG Display says it's developed the world's first "Quad HD" (2,560 x 1,440) display for smartphones.

The South Korean LCD panel manufacturer showed the screen today in a 5.5-inch phablet format that, at 1.21mm thin, it also claims is the world's slimmest. The screen offers an impressively high pixel density of 538ppi. The Quad HD, or QHD, technology offers four times more pixels than 1,280X720 HD displays.

The company says the new screen will make it possible to fully view the PC version of web pages without image distortion, and users will see sharper text and less distortion when zooming in.

We're excited to see what photographs might look like in Quad HD, but it seems we'll have to wait to see the screen in action on an upcoming handset as for now LG Display isn't saying when or in what phone we'll see the technology.

The idea here is the display duplication
where the smartphone display can be directed to a monitor.
Eventually we will go UHD = 3840 x 2160.
I'm just upgrading everything possible to FHD = 1920 x 1080.
My HDTV 1920 x 1080 ias the monitor.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has Display replication (Miracast)
Laptop is next and my Lumia 920 is already sold.
I'm waiting for the Lumia 1520 (if it has MIracast).
Note that the huge HDTV can only display ~2 Mpx images.
8.2 Mpx photos need the UHD standard.
LG "innovative" bizarro-display is barely 3.7 Mpx
and I would rather NOT call it "Quad".

Goodbye battery life...

You don't inspect pictures on a tiny credit card size display no matter what resolution it is. Retina display on iPhone is a crap and so as this. Bring this resolution to desktop monitors.

The 27" iMac has had 2560x1440 resolution since 2009.

Joe, you don't get it. It's not about the desktop monitors, nor is it about bragging. It's about the relevance of high rez on a teeny 5" screen.

Where's my 538ppi 30" desktop monitor?

Joe Ogiba

My 30" monitor has a 2560x1600 resolution so I think 3840x2400 would be great. My HTC DNA has a 5" 1920x1080 441ppi display that looks great. I think 538ppi is overkill IMHO.

No way the human eye can appreciate 4K on a mobile display. =/
