Lensbaby adds Android option to its Kickstarter campaign

When Lensbaby launched the  Kickstarter project for its 'Sweet Spot' selective focus lens at the beginning of April it was initially iPhone only. Now the company has added a pledge level for Android users, too. For $50 you can pre-order the Sweet Spot lens and the Android application for your device. Delivery is expected in October.

The Sweet Spot lens attaches to the device magnetically and it appears there is no difference in hardware between the iPhone and Android versions. Only an Android app was needed to offer the Sweet Spot to mobile photographers using Android devices. Lensbaby says that app development will be starting soon and that devices running Jelly Bean (v4.1-4.3) and KitKat (v4.4) will be fully supported.

Will this accessory madness ever come to an end?

You can now carry half a dozen pretty much useless gimick-lenses along with the smartphone. Some with rather proprietary (ie. Cases) mounts, others with glue on, magnets, etc..
Neither so far produces really good image results. and the effects of this one are "slightly" over the top and can be done by software processing at least to some degree.

Now I'm NOT against smartphone, smartphone photography / mobile photography, not at all.... but people usually end up buying those gimicks, using them 10 times and thats it.
if you start to carry that stuff, you can start to carry a more advanced camera just as well and get quality results without kitsch-effects.

Agree.

I'm awaiting a larger iPhone with better camera specs.
