Instagram beta comes to Windows Phone 8

5
The capture interface on Instagram for Windows Phone 8 looks a lot like the original app for iOS and Android.
Just like its iOS and Android apps, Instagram's Windows Phone 8 app has a news screen to monitor your photo's likes and comments.

Windows Phone 8 users, your day has finally arrived. Instagram has officially launched its app for Microsoft's mobile operating system.

Don't pop the champagne just yet, though. The Instagram that is available for Windows Phone 8 is a very basic, beta version. Despite early reports, the app does allow user to take photos in the app, but it was launched without the video function or straightening tool. In fact, it looks a lot like the Instagram that was in the iOS and Android app stores before the most recent major updates.

The reason for a beta launch? Even though Nokia has been pleading with Instagram to launch a Windows Phone 8 app since March, it appears that Instagram did not have enough time to fully develop the app. Instead of waiting until the app caught up with its iOS and Android counterparts, Instagram decided that a basic app was better than no app at all.

From Instagram's official press release:

We wanted to make Instagram available to people with Windows Phones as quickly as possible, so we focused on creating an awesome experience with Instagram’s core features. We’re not finished, and our team will continue developing the Windows Phone app to keep releasing features and bringing you the best Instagram possible.

Instagram is a place where people come to be inspired and connect with others, and we’re thrilled to welcome Windows Phone users to the community. We can’t wait to see what you’ll create.

Instagram's official Windows Phone 8 app still has to catch up to popular third-party uploader 6tag. Not only will 6tag hide advertisements, it can also upload videos. Because 6tag's is more full-featured, Windows Phone 8 users seeking the Instagram experience might wait to use the official app.

Now that the beta version is live, we are expecting Instagram to roll out the updates quickly. But for now, Windows Phone 8 users can always upload videos to Vine

Maybe WP users have already seen this on ALL sites on the internet already and don't have the need to comment on every single site online. Except me it seems. Oh btw, I think your gmail inbox will have ads about Windows Phone now. You be like, thanks google, me loves you.

Two days, and I'm only the second to comment. That's about all the market research you'll ever need regarding "Windows Phone."

Is such a snide remark really necessary?

Windows Phone just happens to run the best camera phone hardware. If more people here aren't using it, too bad.
