Hands on with the Nexus 4, from TechCrunch

From TechCrunch

TechCrunch is amongst the first to share some initial impressions of Google's new Nexus 4 from LG.

Writer Chris Velazco touches primarly on the display in this first look, but we're really interested in the updated 8-mexapixel primary camera.  We also look forward to giving the Photo Sphere feature a whirl, and seeing what those "360-degree immersive experiences" actually look like.

Google announced the new smartphone yesterday, along with an updated Nexus 7 tablet and a Nexus 10 tablet from Samsung -- all running Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). The 8GB version will sell for $299; the 16GB for $349; both available unlocked and without a contract starting Nov. 13 through the Google Play store in the U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain and Canada. The 16GB version will also be available through T-Mobile for $199, with a 2-year contract (check here for more details).

With Google's pricing on their Nexus phones, I can't understand why anybody would even bother with carrier-locked contract phones. Nexus phones have great specs, are unlocked, are true world phones (pentaband), always the latest version of Android, no carrier bloatware, and CHEAP. More and more carriers are offering cheaper "no-contract" plans these days too.

iPhone is still a great phone, but it's going downhill fast. Apple has peaked. Give it another couple of years.

T-Mobile let me unlock my phone. maybe it is because i have been with them a while. maybe it is just something they allow. i am happy they let me unlock the phone; i can use it when i travel.

you are right about the prices on these phones. i didn't realise they had gotten this low w/o contract.
